Collier and Beale 941 SWB receiver at ZL1ZLD
The 941 SWB (the name indicated 9 valves, introduced in 1941 with coverage of the Short Wave Bands) was designed and built for the New Zealand Post Office by Collier & Beale in Wellington.
Although it looks like the legendary US-made National HRO receiver, with its selection of plug-in coils to cover different frequency ranges, it is in fact a simplified design that uses some National components, such as the geared micrometer turning mechanism.

Auckland Radio had five of these receivers. Originally black in colour, they were repainted grey in the 1950s. (See Phil McGechie’s article for NZVRS.)
Two 941 SWB radios remain at Musick Point, both installed at the Vintage AM operating desk in the East operating room.
