Transmitter 666 for was used for medium wave radiotelegraphy (MCW) at Auckland Radio ZLD.
Details of the transmitter can be seen in the photo above. At the bottom is the 3-phase high-tension power supply, filament transformers, time delay and remote control relays. Next: the sub-modulator, miscellaneous fuses and minor power supplies. Above that: the local control panel with mains and ETI meters, followed by crystal oscillator and driver stages. Second from top: the final deck containing modulator and RF amplifiers, feeding the pi-coupler and tuning unit above. The transmitter was later modified for AM in the broadcast band (possibly by Radio Rhema?), then returned to the Musick Point Radio Group (see colour photo). Unfortunately it was beyond restoration, and was therefore dismantled in 2023.
